Wyatt Bouchard

Founder of Aurora Glassworks. He works in borosilicate at the torch, in Belleville, Ontario.

Wyatt grew up between two workshops — his father's welding shop and his mother's ceramics studio. Both taught the same thing in different materials: making is mostly a matter of paying attention.

He started working borosilicate glass at twenty. The learning was repetition — flame, rotation, heat, cooling, and again — until the results stopped being accidents. The way the studio works now comes out of those years: pieces made one at a time at the bench, in small runs.

Some years in, a workshop fire took his equipment and his archive of finished work. He rebuilt from almost nothing, one tool and one piece at a time. The lesson he kept is the one the studio still runs on: there is no shortcut to work that carries a maker's hand.

Aurora Glassworks is what came out of the rebuild — borosilicate water pipes, rigs and one-hitters, individually finished and sold direct from Belleville. He answers the enquiries himself.
