The wig-wag is built flat first — cane laid side by side, fused, then picked back up and folded into the neck. The gold flecks ride inside the green rather than on top of it, which is why they read as light in water instead of glitter.

The cactus is sculpted separately and attached while both parts are hot. It leans slightly, the way the real ones do, and nobody at the bench was willing to straighten it.
